Working in metal castings, you eventually get asked to make just about everything from custom pins and belt buckles to fantasy swords and collectibles and… in this case, something that blurs the line between belt buckle and novelty item. Is it a plate? Is it a shield? Nope, it’s a belt buckle that puts some of the loudest and proudest Texans to shame.
InolaCastings was recently asked to make a belt buckle over six inches wide. This super-sized buckle hardly seems like it would be practical to wear everyday, but we’ll have to just wait and see who’s laughing when the recipient of this piece uses it to deflect bullets and stop a bank robbery.
This just goes to show the great thing about custom belt buckles, in that, as long as the shape is solid, you can get a buckle in just about any size or shape.
For quick reference, take a dollar bill out of your pocket. That’s six inches across.This belt buckle was bigger than that. If it were made out of lead, they wouldn’t need that apron they give you when you get X-rays taken.
This is the kind of buckle that’s usually reserved for championship belts for boxers and pro wrestlers, but in this case, it was reportedly a gift for someone whose family felt that they needed something of a crest or emblem to signal their arrival several seconds before they get into the room themselves.
At the very least, we can all agree that with a buckle like this, it hardly even matters what else you wear, since all eyes are going to be pointed directly at the medallion strapped around your waist. As far as conversation starters go, you couldn’t ask for much better.
Perhaps it dates back to the cowboy days, when lonesome cattle drivers had no dinner plates out on the open range and had to eat their meals on their belt buckles. In any event, if this is what they wear in Texas, then they weren’t kidding when they said that everything is bigger in the Lone Star state.
