History fact: Belt buckles date to the Iron Age!
The following are the most common types of belt buckle styles:
Frame-Style Buckles – This is the most common type of design. The distinct frame and prong-style buckle attaches to the frame and the metal prong extends outward. The wearer then centers the prong in a belt hole, typically punched in leather or a heavy-duty material. This “D” shaped frame dates back to the eighth century.
Plate-Style Buckles – Popular among mid-19th century military belts, this look is highlighted by a rounded piece of metal that resembles a tongue. It features a clasp closure and two interlocking metal parts.
Box-Frame Buckles are a 20th century friction-style. They consist of three basic parts: post, back and front. This type of belt is easily adjustable. Originally, they were designed to be worn with a cloth strap or belt. They are also known as belt slides and are technically not considered buckles.
Inola Castings offers custom belt buckles, as well as cowboy belt buckles and even large belt buckles.
Custom designs are excellent for military belts, car enthusiasts’ buckles, corporate logos, fraternities, sororities, academic associations, police and/or fire organizations, truckers, awareness causes, western-style belts, motorcycle clubs, sporting franchises, patriotic U.S. flags, music groups, animals and even for occupations (consider a farmer wanting to advertise his profession or a veterinarian wanting to show support of healthy animals). Even jeweled belt buckles are considered a feminine accessory!
